Accessibility Statement
Broken Heart Tattoo San Diego wants everybody to be able to use this website and to visit the studio. This page explains how accessible both currently are, and how to tell us when something is not working for you.
Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. We also aim to meet our obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and, for visitors from California, the Unruh Civil Rights Act, which require equal access to goods and services.
How accessible this website is
This website was rebuilt in 2026 with accessibility designed in from the start rather than retrofitted. As of the review date above, it passes automated accessibility testing with a perfect score on every page, and the following measures are built into every page:
- Keyboard navigation. Every link, button, form control and the booking widget can be reached and operated using a keyboard alone, without a mouse.
- Skip link. A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page, so keyboard and screen reader users can bypass the navigation.
- Visible focus. Interactive elements show a clear focus indicator so you can always see where you are on the page.
- Semantic structure. Pages use real headings in a logical order, landmark regions, and lists marked up as lists, so screen readers can navigate them properly.
- Text alternatives. Every meaningful image has descriptive alternative text that explains what it shows. Purely decorative elements are hidden from assistive technology rather than described.
- Colour contrast. Text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG AA contrast ratio. Contrast was tested and corrected across every colour combination on the site.
- Resizable text. Text can be enlarged to 200% without loss of content or functionality, and the layout reflows to a single column on small screens and at high zoom.
- Responsive layout. The site adapts to phones, tablets and desktops, in portrait and landscape.
- Reduced motion. The site respects your operating system's "reduce motion" setting and does not play decorative animation against your preference.
- Accessible form fields. Every field is properly labelled and associated with its label, and errors are described in text rather than by colour alone.
- Language declared. Pages declare their language so screen readers pronounce content correctly.
Known limitations
We would rather be honest than claim complete conformance. The following limitations currently exist:
- The Calendly booking widget. Appointment booking is provided by a third-party service embedded in our Book Now page. Its accessibility is the responsibility of Calendly, not us, and we cannot guarantee it meets WCAG 2.2 AA in every respect. If you have difficulty using it, we will happily book your appointment for you by phone or email instead - see the contact details below.
- Photography of tattoo work. We write descriptive alternative text for every portfolio image, but a text description of detailed artwork can never fully convey what the piece looks like. If a description is unclear, contact us and we will describe the work in more detail.
- Third-party review platforms. Our links to Google, Yelp, Instagram and Facebook take you to sites we do not control, and whose accessibility we cannot influence.
Accessibility of the studio
Accessibility is not only about the website. The studio at 3704 6th Ave is on the ground floor and has a wheelchair accessible entrance. Our listed amenities include walk-ins welcome, wheelchair accessible entrance, free wi-fi, gender-neutral restroom.
Tattooing involves physical positioning, and some placements require particular postures or equipment. Please tell us in advance about any mobility, sensory, cognitive or other access need, and we will discuss how to make your appointment work properly. We are happy to arrange additional time, an accessible setup, or a private space where that helps.
If you would like to visit the studio before booking, to see the space and check it suits your needs, you are welcome to drop in during opening hours: Open 7 days a week · 12pm–10pm.
How this site was tested
This website is tested with automated accessibility testing tools across every page on both desktop and mobile viewports, and its structure is built on semantic HTML with proper heading order, landmarks and labels. Automated testing cannot detect every accessibility problem, and we have not yet commissioned a formal manual audit or testing with users of assistive technology. We intend to do so and will update this page with the results.
Tell us about a problem
If you encounter any barrier on this website or at the studio, please tell us. We treat accessibility reports as a priority and will respond as quickly as we can.

Enforcement and formal complaints
We would always rather fix a problem directly, so please contact us first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the U.S. Department of Justice regarding ADA compliance, or the California Civil Rights Department regarding California civil rights law.
