Military Discount Tattoos

Broken Heart Tattoo is veteran-owned and run by a U.S. Army veteran. If you served, you get a discount on your tattoo. That is the whole pitch.

Veteran-owned, not veteran-themed

A lot of studios put a flag in the window and call it veteran-owned. Ours actually is. Cristopher "Sky" Skiver served in the U.S. Army, started tattooing in 2004, and opened the studio on 6th Avenue in Hillcrest in 2010. He is still behind the chair most days.

A young Cris Skiver, then an enlisted soldier, lying back while a fellow soldier tattoos his chest.
Then and now Cris, back when he was the one in the chair. Enlisted, getting inked by a fellow soldier, long before he ever owned a shop. The military tattoo tradition is a lot older than this studio - he just happened to grow up inside it.

The discount is a standing offer for active duty, reservists, National Guard and veterans. It is not a holiday promotion and it does not expire. Tell your artist you served when you sit down for the consultation and it gets applied to the quote.

No coupon, no app, no code. Just say something. We are not going to make you prove it with a notarized DD-214.

Every branch, every era

Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, the National Guard and every reserve component. We have tattooed people from all of them, including plenty who served before some of our artists were born.

  • U.S. Army Infantry, armor, artillery, engineers, signal, aviation, medical and everything that keeps the Army moving.
  • U.S. Marine Corps The eagle, globe and anchor, unit insignia, and the bulldog that shows up on more forearms than any other image.
  • U.S. Navy Rate and rating insignia, anchors, ships, submarines, aviation and the classic swallow-and-rope work.
  • U.S. Air Force Wings, aviator and aircrew badges, squadron patches and the Hap Arnold star.
  • U.S. Space Force The newest branch, and a growing number of delta and star pieces.
  • U.S. Coast Guard The racing stripe, surfman badges, cutters and small boat stations.
  • National Guard Army and Air National Guard, state service, deployments and unit crests.
  • Reserve components All reserve branches, drilling reservists and those who have since separated.

What the discount covers

It applies to the tattoo work itself. It does not apply to the shop minimum, which covers sterile setup, needles and materials, because those cost the same no matter who is in the chair. If you are booking something small, ask about the minimum first so the math is not a surprise.

Military tattoos we actually do

Unit crests, rank insignia, branch emblems, rate and rating insignia, aviator wings, squadron patches, service dates, deployment coordinates, dog tags, the flag done properly, and memorial pieces for people who did not come home. These are the pieces where accuracy matters more than almost anything else we tattoo.

Bring your documentation or a clear photo of the insignia. A crest with the wrong number of something on it is a mistake that follows you around forever, and we would rather spend twenty extra minutes at the consultation than get it wrong on skin.

Questions

Military discount questions

Do you offer a military discount on tattoos?

Yes. Active duty, reservists, National Guard and veterans all get a discount at Broken Heart Tattoo. Just tell your artist you served before the quote is finalized and they will apply it.

It is not a coupon you have to dig out of a drawer and it is not a limited-time thing. It is a standing discount, because the guy who owns the shop wore the uniform himself.

Do you need to see military ID?

Bring whatever you have - a CAC, a VA card, a DD-214, or just tell us. We are not running an audit. If you served, you served.

Do you tattoo all branches of the military?

Yes. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, the National Guard and every reserve component. We have tattooed people from all of them, including plenty who served before some of our artists were born.

If you want a branch emblem, a unit crest, a rate or rating, wings, a squadron patch or a deployment date, bring your documentation or a clear photo of the insignia. Getting the details right is the entire point of a piece like that.

Who owns Broken Heart Tattoo?

Cristopher "Sky" Skiver, a U.S. Army veteran. He started tattooing in 2004 and opened the studio on 6th Avenue in Hillcrest in 2010.

He is still behind the chair most days, which means the veteran-owned claim on this site is not a marketing line someone wrote for us. It is just the guy who signs the lease.

What if I want a military-themed tattoo?

That is a large part of what we do. Unit crests, rank insignia, branch emblems, service dates, deployment coordinates, dog tags, the flag done properly, and memorial pieces for people who did not come home.

Bring your documentation or a clear photo of the insignia. Getting a crest wrong is the kind of mistake that follows someone around for the rest of their life, and we would rather spend twenty extra minutes at the consultation than get it wrong on skin.

How do I book?

Book a free 15-minute consultation. Tell the artist you are military at that point and the discount is applied to your quote before you commit to anything.

Walk-ins are welcome too, seven days a week from 12pm to 10pm, but a consultation is the better route for anything with detail in it.
